National Doughnut Day (Belated)

When I have to choose salty over sweet, i will choose salty 95% of the time. One of my greatest weaknesses that fall into that 5% category happens to be doughnuts and my dealer of choice has always been Doughnut Plant. Couldn't help but bring a delicious spread to work at the Fleabags office to celebrate one of my favorite days of the year...

If you haven't had the extreme pleasure of checking this place out, don't wait until the first Friday of 2015 to treat yourself. Life is too short to not enjoy the things you love most.

Travel Guide: Tulum, Mexico

I recently returned from a week long trip to Mexico where we had an amazing time exploring Tulum. This trip had been in the works for months and I actually cannot believe it's over. Let me start by saying this place is like no other location I've been to in Mexico, it is inexplicably unique and truly worth putting on your short list of where to visit next.  Tulum has been getting a lot of (well deserved) attention lately for its eco boutique hotels, delcicious food scene and, best of all, the sandy beaches that meet the Caribbean Sea.

I am definitely guilty of falling into the beach bum category and love nothing more than planting myself in the sand with an umbrella, SPF 85 and a great book to get lost in. This trip was all that and much more.

We stayed at a place called Coco Tulum in rustic beachside cabanas. The cabanas had cute private decks outfitted with you own hammock and adirondack chairs. The rooms were clean, simple, and above all, extremely well priced. Keep in mind the (extremely clean and equally pretty) communal bathrooms for the beachfront cabanas. For a less rustic experience, I suggest booking one of the rooms in the tower with private bathrooms. We also checked out Coqui Coqui and really enjoyed the vibe there. We also really enjoyed spending time at Posada Margherita, the hotel two properties over.

You really can't go wrong with eating out in Tulum, but make sure you don't miss the juice bar at Posada Margherita, poblano pepper crepes at El Tabano, and the black bean tostadas at Simple. You can't visit Tulum without going for dinner at Hartwood. We were told multiples times to get to the restaurant around 5:15 to ensure your spot on the reservation list, and boy should we have listened. Showing up at 6 after a leisurely beach walk from your hotel will get you a 10:30 seating. Trust me, we learned the hungry way...

I am going to take this moment to tell you HOW STRONG THE SUN IS! Use the last photo as inspiration when you're feeling like slapping on sunscreen is the last thing you want to be doing. Believe it or not but i wore SPF 80 the whole trip and still toasted. Do myself and yourself a favor so you don't end up channeling my lobster look in your vacation pics.

When we weren't hanging on the beach, we took some day trips to check out the Dos Ojos Cenote, Tulum ruins and Akumal beach where you can snorkel with turtles (photos of that coming soon hopefully...)

A great trip with some of my favorite company. I can't wait to go back.

West Coast Weekend

I headed to LA this past weekend to meet one of my dear friends for the second weekend of Coachella. We rallied at 6am in order to beat the LA traffic for the very scenic road trip to Palm Springs. I had never been to the music festival or out to the desert, so this trip was extra exciting for me! The 95 degree weather and arid land was a huge change from the mild spring weather we have been having in New York. The weekend was filled with SPF 70, margaritas, harmonizing to Haim (and Lorde), catching up with old friends and exploring new places. It was such a treat to be out west, but there is nothing like returning home after a wonderfully exhausting trip.

It's Finally Here

Spring that is. The winter in the north-east has been rough this year! This weather couldn't be more welcome. Dusting off my copy of "Feast" and adorning the apartment with my current favorite flower, ranunculus.  The days are longer and the sunsets are more beautiful! Using every excuse to be outside, even if it means using the grill as a pizza oven.
